Sasol confirmed it is conducting technical feasibility of supplying methane rich gas (MRG) from its Secunda operations to external customers, from July 2028 to June 2030.

The exercise includes assessing infrastructure compatibility and confirming volume requirements as well as discussions with stakeholders.

The company exports an estimated 160 million gigajoules from Mozambique’s Pande and Temane fields, but natural gas production  is declining.

Dumisani Bengu, Senior Vice President: Marketing & Sales Energy at Sasol Gas, said “Sasol remains committed to supporting the South African industrial gas market. The MRG solution provides a critical supply bridge while Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructure is being developed, and we are engaging customers to ensure alignment on this approach.”

The successful implementation of the MRG solution is subject to regulatory approval of Sasol Gas’s Maximum Gas Price (MGP) application to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA).
