It will take another four years to complete the construction of the Sol Plaatje Municipality Riverton Water Treatment Plant.
The project now in its third year of construction, has spent just over R1 billion.
Dr. Zamani Saul, Premier of the Northern Cape, went to visit the project on Tuesday.
About 442 jobs were created and 44 small businesses (SMME’s) benefitted from the project.
Saul encouraged the Municipality to ensure that there is stability in the organisation, by withdrawing the section 139 intervention, which could place the municipality under administration.
This was triggered by a collapse in governance, political infighting, and service delivery failures.
He also said there should be “no disruptive council meetings, no litigation, no to service interruptions, except planned interruptions and no suspensions.”
