The City of eThekwini invested R25 million to improve public spaces.

Cyril Xaba, the Mayor of eThekwini, said on Sunday, the money went towards the purchase of over 1,000 new horticultural and maintenance equipment for mowing grass and improving the upkeep of public spaces across the City.

He handed over the equipment at Munnies Hockey Club, alongside Zama Sokhabase, the Municipality’s Chairperson for Community Safety.

The equipment is made up of brush-cutters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, pole pruners, tractors with grass-cutting slashers, and skid steers.

It will be used at parks, sports fields, community halls, swimming pools, halls and stadiums.

“EThekwini is globally recognised for its lush green spaces and this initiative ensures we maintain that standard. These tools are not just machines, they’re enablers of dignity, safety, and pride in our communities” said Xaba.
