President Cyril Ramaphosa received a review book documenting the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) journey to net zero, on Friday, the 05th of December.
The handover was held at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guest House, in Tshwane.
In his address, President Cyril Ramaphosa praised the PCC for its leadership and achievements over the past five years — highlighting its role in shaping domestic climate policy, fostering inclusive national dialogue, and amplifying South Africa’s voice on the global climate stage.
The President also said the Just Transition Framework, also released by the Commission, lays out the skills development, economic diversification, social support, governance and finance mechanisms required to make a low carbon economy a reality.
Researchers (including Stiftung Wissenschaft and Politik, Megatrends Africa, Labour Research Service and the South African Energy Efficiency Confederation) identified challenges of the transition as job losses in the coal industry and related financial losses.
A big win noted by the African Energy Chamber, academic researchers (UCT), Good Governance, the Institute for Economic Justice, has been securing investment for the transition and tightening legal foundations in favour of a progression to net zero.
