About 174 motorists were arrested in Johannesburg, since the start of the festive season.
Most arrests were made between the 22nd- 28th December 2025, during high-visibility roadblocks, roving patrols and targeted operations, across all regions of the city.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) announced these figures on Monday afternoon and committed to intensify law enforcement operations.
Commissioner Patrick Jaca, the JMPD Chief of Police, said “every single arrest we make is more than just a statistic, it is a potential tragedy averted and a life saved from the hands of a reckless driver.”
Jaca said JMPD continues with the zero-tolerance mandate and will be visible for 24-hour, on all major routes and identified hotspots.
“Our message remains clear: If you choose to drink and drive, you will be arrested” said Jaca.
