Pearly Beach and Stanford
Farmers in the Pearly Beach and Stanford areas are in urgent need of Lucerne (preferably small or round bales), Game pellets, Game blocks and water troughs or 200-litre blue drums.
Archie Klaas, the Mayor of the Overstrand Municipality, made a call to help farmers, following fires which burnt vast amounts of veld, leaving no grazing for livestock and game.
“The situation is continuing to escalate as more damage is assessed daily.
Farmers with cattle, sheep, and game are facing an urgent challenge of keeping their animals fed and watered in an environment where natural resources have been destroyed.”
In many cases, essential infrastructure such as water pipes, troughs, and containers has melted in the fires, further compounding the crisis.
“To help streamline logistics, Overberg Agri in Stanford stocks most of these items, and members of the public who wish to assist are welcome to make arrangements directly with them” said Klaas.
Cape Nature also announced the closure of all its cottages (Algeria & Bosherberge) and hiking trails located in Cederberg Wilderness Area, from 13-26 January 2026.
Nelson Mandela Bay
Flare ups continue in Baywest, a closely monitored area.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said although the blaze is under control, crews would remain in affected areas.
Although conditions are currently stable, residents are strongly advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant.
“Residents are urged to immediately report any signs of flare-ups, smoke, or fire activity. Public safety remains a top priority, and teams will remain on high alert until it is declared fully safe.”
St Francis Bay
Similarly flare-ups persist at St Francis Bay, where aerial resources continue to douse the fire, supported by ground teams.
Hatting Bornman, Mayor of Kouga District Municipality, said the fire in Kabeljauws River (Woodline and surrounding areas), is mostly under control.
Extinguished fires are in Humansdorp, N2 (Swartrivier), the R102 and Patensie.
