Motorists are complaining about thick mist, and hazardous conditions, including landslides and fallen trees, as rains continue in Limpopo, forecast at Level 9 for Monday, into the week.

As a result, there was an accident on the R71, near Magoebaskloof, which necessitated the closure of a lane. 

Visitors are urged to stay away from rivers and some activities in the area.

Viral videos of overflowing  water sources, include the Tzaneen Dam and the Limpopo River. 

There is already an area where there are mudslides, necessitating road closures, in Medingen village – under Greater Letaba Municipality.

The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure and Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) urged road users travelling on D3179 at Mendigeng, to exercise extreme caution following the erosion of the road’s side wall.

Departmental officials were deployed to the area to assess the damage and undertake the necessary remedial work.

Mpumalanga 

The Kruger National Park also closed its gates due to flooding.

Roads inside the Park are flooded.

Other visitor attractions in the province, including the Bourke’s Luck Potholes, are also temporarily closed.

Simphiwe Sungube, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at the Mpumalanga  Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) said the closure is a precautionary measure to prioritise the safety of both visitors and employees.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned against disruptive rains (Orange Level 9), on Monday, over the eastern areas of Mopani District Municipality (Limpopo) and Bushbuckridge Local Municipality as well as the Collins Chabane Local Municipality.
