Residents of the Garden Route received rain on Thursday this week.
About 1000mm of rainfall was recorded up on the mountains of the Southern Cape.
About 8 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Kruisfontein station, in Knysna, about 13mm and 20mm in George and 22mm in Mossel Bay, this week.
Rainfall flooded some roads in parts of Mosselbay, although there was no substantial damage reported.
Law enforcement officers had to temporarily close George Road, to allow excessive stormwater to drain from the road surface.
Bland Street was also affected, with a section of the street requiring temporary closure.
Knysna’s dam levels remain low at an estimated 23%, with reservoir levels in Sedgefield at 38% for the 4 ML and Blombos Reservoir at 69%.
The Bitou Municipality said rainfall provided crucial relief, ensuring that pumping and supply can continue without interruption.
Keurbooms River flow has risen to 1 507 litres per second, well above the critical 150 L/s threshold for abstraction.
The Roodefontein Dam level has stabilized at 29,98%, supported by catchment inflows.
According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), scattered showers and thundershowers are forecast for the region, with 30% to 60% chances expected, this weekend.
This means an estimated 70–90 mm rainfall, within 24 hours.
As a result, the SAWS issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, strong winds and hail.
