Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issued “red alerts” due to a heatwave, over Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, and La Mancha.
It could get up to 44°C (111°F) hot.
AEMET also shared maps showing precipitation and temperature anomalies between Monday, July 27 and Sunday, August 16, 2026.
As a result, Spain declared a national emergency alert in the Madrid and Avila regions, due to active wildfires.
More than 300,000 people were evacuated in Spain and France, since the start of fires on July 9 in Almería.
Some 130,000 hectares of land were also destroyed by fires in Spain and a historic 98,000 in France.
Although figures of rescued animals are unconfirmed, several teams are in the ground, including the Spanish Military Emergency Unit (UME), and the Guardia Civil.
Thus far, pets, livestock, and wildlife were rescued in Madrid, Ávila, and Robledo de Chavela.
