Discussions to secure the long-term sustainability of the sugar industry, began on Tuesday, with authorities and organisations.
The sugar giant -Tongaat Hulett Limited, dominated talks, because its collapse would cripple the sector, affecting jobs, growers and dependent communities.

Ensuring its stability means securing livelihoods, enabling inclusive growth and preserving the socio-economic fabric of these communities.”
Present at talks was Parks Tau: Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Zuko Godlimpi: Deputy Minister, Reverend Musa Zondi: KZN Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC, Simphiwe Hamilton: Director-General and Ayabonga Cawe: ITAC Chief Commissioner.
