About 32 children from KwaNgubeni and Sibongumbomvu, were taken to their local Pietermaritzburg Bisley Nature Reserve.

The aim was to show them zebra and giraffe living side by side peacefully.

The children were out for the very first time.

One Planet SA said it started drizzling.

“A gentle drizzle only added to the adventure as learners embraced the muddy trails and winding paths. Outdoor learning brought lessons to life, with highlights like spotting giraffes moving gracefully across the terrain—an unforgettable sight.”

They then stopped at the bird hide, hoping to spot some of the many waterfowl species that form part of the nearly 300 bird species found in the reserve.

They were treated to a delicious picnic and cake.

They were also treated to story reading, arts, and crafts.

“A huge thanks to Dave and Peter from Friends of Bisley, whose passion and knowledge enriched the experience with fascinating insights into the reserve’s history.”
