The number of Ebola cases related to the Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has increased by 390 confirmed cases, since the end of May.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) also confirmed about 74 deaths in the DRC.
About 515 cases were confirmed, as of the 6th of June.
A total of 91 deaths among these confirmed cases, were reported from the DRC and 19 from Uganda.
There were also 2 deaths in Uganda and one probable person, who died.
Bienvenu Bwede, Head of Communications at the Virunga National Park, said on Tuesday, the northern section is located just south of Ituri province- the epicentre of the current outbreak.
He said the Park forms a natural firewall, preventing the virus from spreading south to North Kivu, west to Kisangani and north to Uganda.
“That geography, combined with our longstanding presence in the region, puts Virunga at the front line of efforts to stop this outbreak” he said.
Bwede also said teams are establishing 6 screening stations across the front line.
