A shutdown is in effect at the Nahoon Dam Water Treatment Works (WTW), in East London.
Work to replace clarifier disludge valves is expected to take about 24-hours.
Anatolia Water said the contractor has commenced work on Valve No. 3, with approximately 30% of the work completed so far.
Clarifier No. 2 is operational, and Nahoon Dam WTW is now operating at 50% capacity for the duration of the shutdown.
The first of the two valves were successfully removed, while the new valves are ready on site for installation.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said electricity supply to the Emerald Hill Reservoir area was restored yesterday afternoon, with system recovery beginning overnight.
The Emerald Hill Reservoir is at 34%, while most others are in the mid-50% range.
The Glen Denning Reservoir remains low, at 10%.
The Sydenham area is still experiencing challenges, but the Municipality said its teams are investigating the matter.
Pumping has also commenced to Lovemore Heights and surrounding areas to rebuild reservoir levels and strengthen supply.
EThekwini (KwaZulu Natal)
Vandalism of Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs), in the Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu areas, was identified as the main hinderance to adequate water supply.
This emerged at an Executive Committee (EXCO) held on the 18 August 2026.
In Ntuzuma, the City’s Security Management Unit was assigned to undertake a security risk assessment to identify measures that can strengthen the protection of water infrastructure.
The City is also experiencing increased pressure on the water network as a result of illegal connections and unplanned migration.
In Ward 93, eZiko koBhengu, water supply was restored. However, the system remains intermittent due to high demand, which continues to destabilise the KwaMakhutha Reservoir.
In Ward 111, Esidweni, a project to install two standpipes was completed and commissioned to improve access to water for the affected community.
In Umlazi F Section, water supply to Cyril Zulu Grove, which had been without water for several years, has been restored following various interventions by the Water and Sanitation Directorate.
However, high-lying roads continue to experience low pressure when the Umlazi 2 Reservoir level is low.
On the Northern Aqueduct, the City has commenced a project to reinstate the pressure zone supplying Newlands 1 Reservoir. The reservoir supplies areas including Castlehill, B5, Westridge, River Dene, Newlands West, Earslfield and Briardale.
