There was another explosion at the Central Substation, in Johannesburg, on Wednesday evening.

This is just a day after the station caught fire for the fourth time this year.

Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said technical teams were attempting to restore electricity supply through newly installed feederboard, when hit by the newest blow.

Smoke quickly filled the substation, and Emergency Management Services (EMS) were at it, yet again.

“The Selby incomer, which failed yesterday, failed again during this evening’s attempt to restore power. The extent of the damage and the cause of the explosion have yet to be established” said Mangena.

He also said the incident is a further setback to the restoration work at the substation.

Now there is no telling of when electricity will be restored.

Affected areas are Marshalltown, parts of the Inner City, Wemmer, Selby and sections of Albert, Eloff, Commissioner and Anderson streets.
