Authorities suspect an incendiary device was possibly thrown at a double storey building, in Durban, sparking a fire which later burnt both the upper and lower floors, on Wednesday evening.
The building is at the corner of Umbilo Road and Che Guevara Road.
The eThekwini Municipality said nothing is conclusive as yet, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The ground floor has a tyre fitment centre and the upper, is a church.
The eThekwini Municipality said firefighters worked through intense heat, thick smoke, and highly combustible material, to rescue a trapped woman, therein.
She was then treated for smoke inhalation before being transported to hospital for further care.
Crews brought the blaze under control within 10 minutes of arrival.
