The City of Tshwane said in Wednesday morning, the Zwartkop Substation, which caught fire on Tuesday morning, remains off the grid.

The City said this is due to findings of its report, that the substation suffered major damage to cables, that need replacing.

These control cables are essential for the protection of the substation. 

The City also said it’s investigation revealed that the Lyttelton/Kwagga Overhead Line 1 was also damaged by the fire at the Zwartkop Substation. 

Repairs to this Line are scheduled to begin on the 21 May 2025. 

Although the time for full restoration of electricity supply remains unknown, the City said tests on transformers tested positive.
