A fire broke out at Tarantaalrand, an agricultural farm area in the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality.
One flank of the fire was controlled by around midday on Saturday, while another continued to burn on.
Marnus De Beer, of the Letaba Fire Protection Association (FPA) and other workers, reported that it is a very hot fire with lots of fuel load burning.
They needed more resources and lots of water to get it under control.
So the FPA said Tzaneen Emergency Support Team dispatched (TEST) joined firefighting efforts on Saturday morning, as well as Willem Robbertse and the Mopani District Municipality Emergency Center.
The Tzaneen Country Lodge provided water to quell the fire.
But the FPA said firefighters were unable to access the active flank, because some landowners would not open gates for them.
Strong winds reignited the fire, at around 13:26.
The Tzaneen Emergency Support Team then moved to the Deerpark side, to see if they could access the fire from there.
They got to the head of the fire on foot, using beaters to try and put it out.
Mopping up began just after 2pm.
The active flank of the fire, is not expected to jump to the side where there are structures.
