The African climate summit is expected to start in a few hours in Kenya.
A statement from the African Union said the Africa Climate Summit (ACS) is expected to lead to a declaration on green growth and climate finance solutions, and a call to action by leaders.
The summit will address progress thus far, exchange perspectives, and begin to converge on common priorities for globally relevant discussions in line with international targets.
If carbon emissions are not reduced, experts say the impact of climate change on the African continent, could impact temperatures, leading to drought, changing rainfall patterns, and more.
Vulnerable rural communities could experience drought, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, soil erosion and decreased subsistence economies.
The summit will emphasize the need for a fairer financial system. The youth, indigenous people and local communities are expected to present their statements to the summit.
