Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has joined several organisations, to welcome the appointment of Advocate Jan Lekgoa Mothibi as the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
The Presidency announced the decision on Wednesday.
Busisiwe Mavuso, BLSA CEO, said “BLSA believes that Adv Mothibi’s extensive track record within the criminal justice system, makes this an appropriate and relevant appointment that will ensure the NPA is able to continue its vital role in preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions. Under his leadership, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) made good progress in the fight against crime, including the recovery of millions of Rands lost to corruption. His track record at the SIU is also marked by institutional reforms and enhanced collaboration with other anti-corruption bodies. We believe that Adv Mothibi brings the appropriate knowledge and experience that will ensure the NPA successfully achieves its objectives in our collective fight against crime and corruption.”
Mothibi has held several positions including Executive Director at Medscheme Holding a subsidiary of AfroCentric Health, Head of Compliance at South African Airways (SAA), for Nedbank as its Senior Manager Enterprise Risk Manager and at Standard Bank as Head of Operational Risk.
He was formerly a Public Prosecutor in the Magistrates and Regional Courts in the Johannesburg and Soweto Magistrates Courts, Head of Employee Relations at the then Department of Finance and SARS.
