More than 9 600 delegates from over 25 countries, are expected to attend Africa’s Travel Indaba this week.
The Travel Indaba is scheduled to start on the 12 to 15 May, at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
Themed ‘Unlimited Africa’, the Indaba is expected to reimagine the continent’s limitless tourism opportunities it presents to the world.
eThekwini Municipality said the economy will benefit from the three-day trade showcase. This will be through hotel occupancy, expected at between 87 to 97 percent, with a projected R232 million spend for local businesses, thus injecting a projected R575 million to the City’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
More than 1 000 jobs will be created during this period.
Cyril Xaba, Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, said the event contributed more than R479 million to the City’s economy last year.
Xaba also said he is satisfied with the meticulous planning and proactive safety measures undertaken to guarantee a seamless and unforgettable experience for all attendees.
The City said it’s beefed up security ahead of the Indaba, through its rejuvenation programme for the inner-city precinct.
