Only 11,3% of young women are entrepreneurs in South Africa.

This is according to the GEM SA 2024 report, co-authored by Angus Bowmaker Falkoner, for Stellenbosch Business School.

The report was published at a time when about 50% or less youngsters between the ages of 15-34, were economically active (back in Quarter 1 of 2023).

The report found that women are less likely to view themselves as being capable of starting a new business (66.2%) compared to men at 72.4%.

This is despite two-thirds of both men and women confirming that they see good opportunities to start a new business in their area.

Imani Ndaba, founder of Imani PR Management is trying to close this very gap, through intense collaboration between business and the empowerment of young women.

Through the “How to Her” movement launched in November 2022, Ndaba says the campaign is designed to meet “inside out” needs of modern women.

“The movement is 3-fold, to grow small female businesses” explains Ndaba.

Daily tools used to reach women are through social media engagement (YouTube) and through a bi-annual brunch to actively connect.

Ndaba says the next brunch is on Saturday, the 24th May 2024, for more details contact: hello@insideoutgirlscampaign.org or visit insideoutgirlscampaign.org
