Motorists are advised to expect heavy delays, and congestion on the R103, following the clearing of debris of the demolished Ashburton bridge,in Pietermaritzburg.

The bridge was demolished on Friday evening.

The bridge was also closed for more than 30 hours this weekend.

Debris was cleared on Saturday afternoon, making way for traffic to flow between Lynnfield Park Interchange and Market Road Interchange.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) warned road users of the demolition a month ago, originally scheduled for 09 –12 May 2025, it was postponed to 20:00 on Friday, 16 May 2025, until 05:00 on Sunday, 18 May 2025.
