An explosion in the Roodepan area, part of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, was followed by a widespread outage in the area, since last week.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Electrical Department said the explosion was caused by thieves cutting an aluminium cable near Roodepan’s SwitchHouse No1.
They thought it was a copper cable.
Thabo Mothibi, Spokesperson of the Municipality, said on Saturday, power supply was restored to lower Roodepan’s White City, Mintdraft, Erwe, and Sunset Manor, except the feeder in Jacksonville.
Residents in Jacksonville have had no electricity for three days, due to excessive damage to a transformer at H.A Morris Substation, since early hours of last Thursday morning.
Mothibi said the attack on the substation can be likened to an act of sabotage.
