A fire at the Vaalwater Dumping Site has been burning since Sunday.
Residents of Extension 3, have been complaining of a shroud of smoke for days now.
The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality said a preliminary investigation, found children were seen near the site, allegedly burning copper wire.
The Municipality said it has resorted to hire a private company to assist in extinguishing the fire.
“The municipality resolved to appoint a private service provider due to the magnitude of the fire and the fact that the municipality does not have the necessary resources and equipment to deal with the situation effectively” said the Municipality’s communications unit manager.
