An active fire at the top of the Banghoek Valley, in Franschoek is testing resources.

Today marks the tenth day since the fire began.

But the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services, said Banghoek, follows after its name, loosely translated in English as “scared corner.”

It is steep and dangerous terrain, presenting significant operational challenges with no guarantees of success.

Two ground teams were sent to extinguish the fire there, including an aerial crew from Leading Edge.

A reconnaissance flight is expected to take off on Monday, to determine the full extent of the fire line, which has already spread out to the Overberg area.

The Overberg District Fire Services is on site.
