The City of Johannesburg issued a traffic advisory on Tuesday afternoon, that an intersection at Bertha/De Korte, Bertha/Jorrisen & Bertha/Nelson Mandela Bridge streets were closed off due to a gas explosion.

In a statement, the City of Johannesburg said firefighters responded to a report of a truck on fire in Braamfontein. Upon arrival, they found an Egoli gas truck including part of a building, had caught fire while technicians were doing maintenance at corner Bertha and De Korte streets.

“Five people were treated on site and only two were taken to hospital. Crews remain on site and working together with Egoli Gas to find the cause of the fire.”
