BRICS Summit
President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Kazan, Russia, to lead South Africa’s participation in the XVI BRICS Summit.
The summit is held from 22 to 24 October 2024 under the theme: “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.”
President Ramaphosa will commence his programme on Tuesday afternoon, 22 October 2024, with a bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation.

National Wetlands Indaba
Dr Jennifer Molwantwa, CEO of the Water Research Commission, is expected to give a Keynote Address at the National Wetlands Indaba 2024, organized by the Event Synthesis (Pty) Ltd.
Wetlands make up just over 2% of South Africa’s area, but an alarming 48% of wetlans ecosystems are critically endangered.
Only 300,000 wetlands remain.
Isimangaliso Wetland Park, is the biggest Wetland in the country, spanning to 3,280 square kilometers, it is a World Heritage Site, declared under UNESCO.

GERS
The Gauteng Department of Environment in partnership with University of Johannesburg are hosting the 6th Annual Gauteng Environmental Research Symposium (GERS), themed: “Sustainability: Translation from Policy to Practice”.
The objective of the symposium is to discuss and determine the steps that can encourage a translation from policy to practice as well as promote interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthen the knowledge sharing.
GERS connects cutting-edge research with strategic environmental decision-making.
