Donna Fata, Astron Energy Spokesperson, said in a statement this week, the Astron energy refinery is now fully operational and able to meet demands.

Astron Energy had an operational upset, which led to a predicted shortage of supply of Unleaded Petrol and Diesel products from the refinery in Cape Town.

Last week, Astron said its process units came down due to an operational upset.

The SGB Cape Town team also announced their achieved zero non-conformances and received several commendations, highlighting the strength of systems.
The team expressed excitement via social media this week.
“We are extremely proud of the SGB-Cape SHEQ team for successfully achieving ISO 9001:2015 recertification through the international audit firm, DQS.
The auditor conducted a thorough review across all head office departments, Astron Refinery in Cape Town, as well as our Durban and Gauteng branches.”

Conservationists must be breathing a sigh of relief, hoping the recent international audit will lessen the amount of petrochemical spills into the Table Bay Nature Reserve.
The last spill was in 2023, which required conservation officers to place berms around the Reserve, to contain the spill.
