A 34-year-old man was arrested for illegal hunting, possession of game meat, and the Contravention of the Immigration Act, on Wednesday.
Police said the man is from Zimbabwe and was caught during an intelligence operation conducted by the Sekhukhune Tactical and Investigation Team.
Police first received information about illegal hunting at a farm on the Vaalfontein Road under the Groblersdal policing area.
They proceeded to Bloompoort village, to search at a homestead in Monageng.
During the search, they uncovered chunks of meat stacked in a refrigerator, suspected to be that of two sable antelopes, caught in snares and butchered, on Tuesday.
The sable antelopes (old bucks) are valued at R44 000.
Police further found portions of the meat cut into strips and hung on trees to dry for the production of biltong.
The Police further learnt that the dried meat was intended to be collected once it had dried as it would be lighter and easier to transport.
The suspect was immediately arrested on charges of illegal hunting, possession of game meat.
He is expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
