There are reports of two trucks looted, burning of tyres and debris, near the Diepkloof hostel in Soweto, since early Saturday morning.
Angry residents from the nearby hostel gathered on the main road, protesting against interrupted electricity.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said officers are on the scene monitoring, alongside the police (SAPS).
Affected roads are the N12 East / N1 North Highway at the Diepkloof Interchange, as well as Chris Hani Road.
JMPD advised motorists to rather use alternative routes such as the Golden Highway or the Rand Show Road.
