Graders are on standby to remove snow at various roads, before it can reach 30cm high.
Road Traffic Inspectorate Teams are expected to focus on snow-prone roads, such as the N3, around Ladysmith, Kokstad, Underberg, Harding, Newcastle, N11, Pietermaritzburg and N2, to prevent motorists from getting stuck on the road.
Moreover, the Department of Transport in KZN prepared 170 rooms at Montclair Lodge, for displaced communities.
Siboniso Duma, MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, said the road freight directorate will be engaging with stakeholders in the freight and logistics sector to ensure the execution of one coherent plan.
Eastern Cape
The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality’s Road Traffic Services said several roads were badly affected by rains.
The R102 near Nahoon Dam has sustained significant damage, with sections of the tar surface washed away, leaving only a gravel roadway.
Similarly, Billie Road near Vukuhambe was damaged, with sections of the tar washed away.
There is also a puddle of water at the NU6 Mall Circle, while water has accumulated on several other roads throughout Mdantsane.
Motorists are urged to avoid these roads.
