Zambia’s Liuwa Plain National Park has reopened for the 2025 season, as water in the Park continues to decrease naturally.

African Park said although still muddy in some areas, the roads within the national park are now drivable.

“We’re excited to report that wildlife sightings and birding are currently phenomenal, with the wildebeest yet to move north, and most of the animals concentrated in the middle of the park. At the same time, wading birds such as heron, stork and egret are taking full advantage of the opportunity to feast on aquatic life left behind by the retreating floodwater. The fact that Liuwa Plain is only open for part of the year makes this Zambian wilderness even more special, and seeing it in its current state of transition means that every day offers new views and experiences.”
