No water yet in taps in Coronationville and Westbury, but residents met up with Dada Morero, Joburg City Mayor, in Coronationville, on Thursday afternoon, regarding next steps.
Morero has deployed 20 water tankers to supply the area.
But a 77 -year-old cancer patient, who has had three operations, asked how she must carry the water buckets from the trucks, home?
The trucks are located at certain spots-Wards 82, 86 and 69.
“I am not gonna wait for three weeks, I want water now, at the Old Age Village” said the elderly lady.
Another resident suggested the entire piping system and reservoirs be revisited, and decentralised, to supply both upper and lower areas, accordingly, while another, wants Jojo tankers, filled with water.
Training youth to fix local water challenges, was echoed by several residents.
Morero, committed to meeting a water committee of 9, to implement concerns raised in the meeting.
He also said rates and taxes are important to keep the Muni running, and that money can now be ringfenced, for infrastructure.
“But if you are a pensioner, 60 years old, with a property under the value of R,1,2 million, rates are not charged. We only charge you for consumption.”
Joburg Water, said supply was restored in some areas, but repair efforts, were hampered by ongoing vandalism.
