The uMngeni-uThukela Water Board said the lowering of the Mvutshane Dam will not disrupt the supply of water to residents of the Maphumulo Municipality.
The Mvutshane Dam which supplies water to the Maphumulo Local Municipality, part of the ILembe District Municipality.
Now that work has begun to lower the dam, to prepare for rehabilitation, the Water Board, said, it will continue to both treat and supply normal volumes of water.
A phased lowering is scheduled to start on Monday, the 15th July until the 15th August 2024.
The dam level will go from from its current 63,7% level to 40%.
This is to allow for the rehabilitation and strengthening of the dam embankment against erosion.
The dam will be maintained at a 40% level until the completion of the project, on the 10 September 2024.
