About 17 percent of affected customers situated along Juta Street, Eendracht Street, Smit West Street Smith North Street and the Braamfontein Crematorium, now have electricity.
This, after a fire at the Double Decker section, affected areas between Braamfontein and Fordsburg Substation, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
City Power assessed the condition of the interconnectors and discovered that two of the cables had faults.
With the fire extinguished, City Power teams are now busy with repairs.
City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said on Thursday evening, “as soon as those cables are fixed, we will restore additional customers through the interconnectors.”
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by yet another incident of suspected cable theft and vandalism.
