An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred in the Pacific Ocean, on Sunday evening around 9pm.

The epicentre was located 291 km from Kagoshima, Amami Oshima (Japan).

Underground tremors were felt on a number of islands in Japan.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the event is expected to result in the flactuation of sea level, but with minimal damage to infrastructure.

Areas affected are in Amami City and Kagoshima Prefecture.

The Agency also said although Typhoon Man-yi has weakened, it remains in the Typhoon category.
It is expected to weaken due to unfavorable conditions in the South China Sea.
