The police have arrested a 39-year old man, who was trying to cross the border with a black bag, full of money.

Captain Sekgotodi Dineo, said in a statement, the man is a South African, who was trying to cross the border of South Africa to Swaziland. He was literally jumping through the fence, when the police stopped and searched him.

“Information was escalated to the Hawks Secunda based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. They took over the crime scene. During interrogation, the suspect was asked about the money, where was it coming from and where was it taken to.”

It was discovered that the money was not declared according to FIC Act 38 of 2001, in terms of section 54.

He was then arrested and charged with the possession of suspected stolen property.

The money was seized and booked in the SAP 13.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Elukwatini Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 25 September 2024.

Major General Gerber, the Provincial Head of the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation, applauded the vigilance of the Border Management Authority, for their integrity, in handling the matter.
