Emergency services (EMS) are responding to a mass drowning incident at the Eastern Beach, in East London.
Bongani Fuzile, Spokesperson of the Buffalo Municipality, said a mass rescue operation is underway after several swimmers got into difficulty in the water.
Only one person was rescued thus far, while one is missing.
Fuzile also said the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is en route to assist with the ongoing search operation.
