A 35 -year old woman was swept away by heavy rains in Sibongile Township, part of the eNdumeni Local Municipality (Dundee), last night.
An elderly person is recuperating in hospital, after being struck by lightning in ward 8, part of the uMlalazi Local Municipality.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, KwaZulu-Natal’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC, said he has allocated a second disaster management team to uMlalazi Local Municipality.
There severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall caused extensive damage in wards 16, 21, and 14.
“Our disaster management teams are on high alert and will continue to respond swiftly to emergencies. We appeal to residents to exercise caution and report any incidents to local authorities” said Buthelezi.
