About six people were injured in eThekwini, as a result of Friday’s heavy rains. Of the six, three were hospitalised, one had serious injuries. The other three people were treated for minor injuries and were later discharged.

The City of eThekwini’s Disaster Management and Emergency Services, said there was severe damage in Ward 85, uMlazi, south of Durban.

About five formal houses collapsed, displacing 16 people. Affected families were moved to a nearby shelter, while the provincial and City’s Human Settlements Departments search for temporary accommodation.

No fatalities were reported.

Several roads throughout the City were severely flooded, causing disruption to bus services, particularly in the north.

The Disaster Management Unit and emergency rescue teams are assessing the extent of the damage and related financial implications.
