The Tshwane Metro Police urged motorists to avoid streets around the Lucas Moripe stadium on Friday evening.

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns and German Bundesliga, is scheduled to start at 8pm.

The police said traffic is most likely to start at around 4pm, at park and ride transport arrangements, likely to affect the Lucas van der Berg Sports Complex and Ga Mothakga Resort.

Moreover, streets around the stadium will be closed from 12pm.

These include the following streets: Thusago and Hlahla, Maunde and Hlahla, Maunde and Mogadielo, Pilane and Maunde, Ramokgopa and Hlahla, Ramosodi and Pilane, Mphahlele and Pilane, Maunde and Mokgatle, Kudu and Magombane, Matshiga and Pilane, Maunde and Quagga, Matshiga and Pilane, Maunde and Quagga, Matshiga and Mothlakwane and Maunde and Khoza, WF Nkomo and Kalafong, WF Nkomo and Seeiso, Matshiga and Gomba.

Similarly, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), advised motorists and residents of significant traffic disruptions in Orlando, Soweto, on Friday, 29 May 2026. 

This is due to an international friendly fixture between South Africa (Bafana Bafana) and Nicaragua.

As a result, the JMPD said road closures will be implemented starting from 02:00 PM (14:00). 

Heavy traffic and closures are expected on the following major routes between 02:00 PM (14:00) and 11:00 PM (23:00): The N17, Soweto Highway, Klipspruit Valley Road, Martha Louw Street, Mooki Street, Sofasonke Street and Kumalo Main Road.

Specific Intersections will be closed, including Mooki Street: Between Nkom Ya Hlaba and Masopha Streets, Martha Louw Street: Between Klipspruit Valley Road and Mooki Street.

Alternative routes are Ballenden and Masopha Streets and the broader Soweto Highway network.
