The draft Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) for Sir Lowry’s Pass proposes an upgrade of opportunities within the village to improve general living conditions.
It also proposes quality amenities be improved, as well as public open spaces and informal settlement.
All this will ensure the scenic Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road is preserved.
These are just some of the proposed developments included in the draft document.
The City of Cape Town wants residents to participate in refining the LSDF for the Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, located in the Helderberg District, north of the Firlands development area.
The draft LSDF’s focus is on the area bordered by the N2 highway, including Blue Rock Estate, the railway line, Old Sir Lowry’s Pass Road, Tobacco Lane, Knorhoek Road, Farm 840 and Tre Donne.
Therefore, the City of Cape Town is hosting a public information meeting about the draft local spatial development framework (LSDF) for Sir Lowry’s Pass Village and surrounds, in the Helderberg District on Thursday, 5 December 2024.
The proposed plan will be discussed in detail, and the City will accept comments until the 31 January 2025.
This follows several public engagements and workshops held earlier this year, used to inform the draft LSDF.
Alderman Eddie Andrews, the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment, said “once approved, the LSDF will guide development and land use decisions to address current challenges, such as the need for community facilities and open space, to plan for future population growth, and build on the opportunities to the benefit of the local communities. The draft document proposes interventions to address the existing backlog in service provision and accommodation, and identifies opportunities to improve living conditions and economic upliftment.”
Andrews said the area needs a spatial vision to guide the development of vacant land, and the upgrade of informal settlements with due consideration to heritage areas that must be conserved, protected and enhanced to become tourist attractions.
Information dates for public meetings are on the 05th December 2024 until the 22nd January 2025.
