The number of informal structures gutted by a fire in Philippi, is still unknown.

This follows a huge fire, which left families homeless, on Thursday evening.

The Animal Welfare Society said its team worked alongside the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, to evacuate residents and rescue dogs, cats, kittens and rabbits, trapped in burning informal homes.

“Sadly, some animals suffered burnt injuries and have already been brought back to our hospital and others lost their lives” said the Welfare Society on its social media platforms.

The Society’s hospital is accepting silbecor ointment for burn wounds, bandages and towels.

This is the third fire to engulf informal settlements this month.

A man was killed in a fire in Observatory (Singabalapha), on Wednesday early morning.

Abother blaze left some four hundred people displaced at the Myitshe informal settlement in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.
