Emergency services in Johannesburg (EMS) urges shop owners to store merchandise properly, to avoid the overloading of goods.
This, after EMS responded to a blaze in the Joburg City centre, which destroyed at least three neighbouring shops, at Corners Bree and Small Streets.
Although no casualties were reported, goods such as cellphones, cigarettes and rubber bands were destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Robert Mulaudzi, Spokesperson of EMS said in a statement on Saturday “flammable goods must be kept separate from other items to reduce the risk of fires.”
