Two bridges in Kariega in Uitenhage, are being repaired, after they were damaged by last year’s floods.

This emerged during a visit by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).

The committee inspected two Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) project sites, located in South End and Kariega.

Speaking onsite over the weekend, Luxolo Namette, Chairperson of the MPAC, said “the refurbishment of the Kariega bridges, is expected to be completed by October 2025. We have also made it clear to both the responsible Directorate and the contractor on site that the work must be completed on time and within the approved budget.”

Namette also said the committee is mandated to ensure efficient and effective use of public resources.

As a result, the next step, she said, is to conduct workshops, research and engage with other Metros to adopt best practices.
