South Africa has received 900,000 vaccine doses from Botswana, to start its mass vaccination programme against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Both John Steenhuizen, Minister of Agriculture and Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, MEC for the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, visited the Karan Beef feedlot in Heidelberg, on Monday.

A case in Mpumalanga originated from an auction in Utrecht, KwaZulu-Natal. Similarly, another case in Gauteng, was linked to a feedlot that received animals from an auction in Heidelberg.

Ramokgopa said small scale farmers and communal herds, would be prioritised in the Gauteng vaccine rollout.

Multiple cases were reported in Mpumalanga, KZN and recently- Gauteng.
