Two workers were rescued at a Ballito construction site on Wednesday, by a multi disciplinary team.
They were buried under a sudden soil collapse, since the early hours of the morning.
The two are in their late thirties.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, said “following a call at 11h30, the KwaDukuza Fire Services arrived on-site and initiated a high-stakes extraction operation.”
He said both the fire services and IPSS Medical teams, freed the trapped men within 60 minutes.
Both sustained minor injuries, and were transported to a Durban-based medical facility for further observation.
He also said “the Department calls on all contractors to ensure rigid adherence to safety protocols to prevent future occurrences of this nature.”
