City Power said about 557 calls were lodged in Alexandra alone, by 7:30am on Monday.
Another 76 calls came from the Midrand area and a whooping 1,187 are from the City Centre of Joburg.
The local power utility said in notices to its customers, the power system is constrained and there are different reasons for outages.
In Alexandra, technicians are out investigating the cause of the outage in Far East Bank Extension 2.
Work is unable to proceed in Cresswold, because a customer is reportedly refusing the digging of a trench near his gate.
Parts of Freedom Park East, in Eldorado Park have an outage due to a transformer that was burnt and needs replacing, while the one supplying North and South areas, tested faulty.
Eskom said on Sunday it is still working to restore supply to Zone 1, the last remaining area affected by an outage in Meadowlands.
Last week residents took up the streets, expressing frustration and anger after 3 days without electricity.
Kokstad and Harding
Eskom also reported significant progress made to restore electricity to parts of KZN, affected by last week’s strong winds.
As a result, 163 networks were affected, causing an outage to about 190,000 homes and businesses.
Restoration of infrastructure is underway in the Kokstad and Harding areas. There Eskom said it would conductors would be restrung.
Eskom said people should stay clear of damaged electricity infrastructure and report exposed components to officials.
