The City of eThekwini said there are delays to water supply, due to threats against Municipal staff.

The City said its Water Distribution Officer was threatened and prevented from entering Chatsworth Reservoir 4 by a group of people, on Monday, the 05th May.

The Officer was at the facility to close the valves, in order to allow the system to fill up.

Valves are closed as part of the rationing initiative which has schedules for closing and opening water.

Rationing was introduced in certain parts of the City with major water supply constraints, mainly in the central and south regions.

The City said as a result of this incident, the reservoir currently does not have sufficient water to supply all the communities dependent on it. Water that is coming through the reservoir gets depleted quickly and is therefore not reaching all the intended communities.

The City closes the valves to build sufficient water levels which allows enough pressure for water to reach intended communities.

Affected communities are Arena Park, Crossmoor, Montford, Moorton, Risecliff, Welbedacht East, Welbedacht West, Woodhurst, Croftdene, Bottle Informal Settlement, Unit 6, Unit 7, Unit 9, and Unit 11.
