The Uhuru Film Festival 2025 kicks off at the Oasis Hotel, Mokopane, from 3 to 6 July.

Themed “Youth Revolt” the festival promises to tell African stories.

Event organisers said “this year’s theme is a call to creative arms. A powerful stand by Africa’s youth to reject tokenism, break free from stereotypes, and reclaim authorship over their stories. It’s a rebellion against invisibility and a movement toward visibility, validation, and voice.”

A list of planned events include a glitzy gala on the opening night-3 July at PV Lifestyle Restaurant, Mokopane.
Filmmakers, celebrities, dignitaries, are expected to attend.

A curated screening of powerful African documentaries, will tackle social justice, land, memory, mental health, and identity, on day 2, while extensive talks and training will be on the 5 July.
Industry panels, practical masterclasses, and conversations will be led by industry veterans in directing, acting, and production.
